Department of Geological Sciences
Chair of Earth Sciences plus Reader/Lecturer(s)

As part of a planned expansion of the Department of Geological Sciences, the
University wishes to appoint outstanding scholars in up to four academic
positions, at least one of which will be at a senior level. 

Applicants for the newly established Chair of Earth Sciences should be
outstanding scholars with international research reputations, excellent
publication records, demonstrable ability to raise substantial research
funds, and be actively researching in a strongly developing area of Earth
Science in which he/she will be expected to give vigorous leadership. Salary
will be at an appropriate point on the professorial scale.

It is expected that the other positions will be filled at Lecturer level,
although an exceptionally well qualified candidate may be appointed at a
more senior level. 

The Department has research programmes in the broad areas of Environmental
Geology, Geochemistry, Geodynamics, Geophysics, Palaeobiology, Petroleum
Geoscience, Petrology, Sedimentology and Structural Geology. Candidates are
sought with interests in any of these general areas, although outstanding
individuals in any area of Earth Science are encouraged to apply. Those
appointed, in addition to conducting first-class research, will be expected
to teach in appropriate areas of Earth Science.
