mda Conference 11-15 September 2000
Clicks & Mortar: building cultural spaces for the 21st century
Assessing the impact of the newest technologies on museums, libraries and
archives, the next mda Conference will take place in Newcastle during the
week beginning 11 September 2000.
Director of mda, Louise Smith commented: “Museums, libraries and archives as
cultural spaces are changing radically. The museum as after school club and
the library as idea store being just two examples. The combination of the
virtual and the tangible will form the new building blocks of the cultural
sector. Switching off the analogue TV signal within the next ten years
promises widespread access to digital networks, with the blurring of
distinctions between computer, television and telephone. The impact on
cultural content will be equally momentous.”
A call for papers for the conference will be issued next month.
