About the Convention
The first Structural Engineering Convention (SEC) was held at
IIT-Madras during 12-14 February 1997. The Convention was a big
success. It was felt that such Conventions should be held regularly
in the country. The Second Convention is thus being planned during
5-8 January 2000.
The convention will be composed of plenary, keynote, invited,
contributed and poster presentations having a focus on the
Improvement in the Structural Engineering Practices. Also, a
commercial exhibition is planned at the Convention Centre.
This will be a good opportunity for firms to display their products and
services. The convention will provide an ideal forum for interaction
amongst researchers, designers, architects, practicing engineers,
software developers/ promoters, manufacturers and contractors to come
together and disseminate the latest information and technology related
to the practical, theoretical and research experiences in analysis,
design, construction and maintenance in the following main areas of
structural engineering.
* Materials of Construction
* Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites
* Construction Technology
* Assessment, Maintenance and Rehabilitation
* Computer Applications
* Recent Trends in Analysis and Design
* Tall Structures
* Bridges and Fly-overs
* Marine & Hydraulic Structures
* Aerospace Structures
* Special Structures
Call for Papers
Authors are invited to submit full length papers not exceeding ten A4
size pages, with one inch margin on all sides covering any of the above
topics to the Convention Secretariat as soon as possible, but not later
than the deadline given below. The papers should be type-set in single
spacing and by using 10 pt Times New Roman font for the main text and
12 pt Times New Roman font (bold) for the section titles. The
referencing should adhere to the conventional, ASCE format. Only peer
reviewed selected material will find a place in the Convention Proceedings.
There would also be best paper awards for the papers presented at
the Convention.

design software and also construction related products. Individuals
are also encouraged to bring their own software for demonstration.
A souvenir is also planned on this occasion, which will serve as a
publicity window to all those who are connected with the design,
manufacture and supply of cement, admixtures, waterproofing
compounds, paints, composites, adhesives and sealant materials.
Also those involved in construction activities and manufacturing or
supply of construction equipment and tools will get an opportunity
to demonstrate their strengths and achievements in the related areas.
Sponsorship/ Co-sponsorship
Organisation and Institutions engaged in Structural Engineering
