Some applications still need DOS window for running them. ABAQUS is one
of them.
With the default NT setup DOS window can be created from the Desktop Start menu.
and with the default ABAQUS setup, your working directory set.
Then, before running the application concerned you need to go to a particular
directory. With the default setup, this can be done in two ways.
Method (1)
(a) First create the DOS window from Start Menu
(b) Type the command cd <directory>
In my case directory is usually a long string. If I make a typing mistake,
I need to redo (b) again. Of course you can edit it using the arrow keys.
Method (2)
(a) First create the DOS window from Start Menu
(b) Type cd in DOS window
(c) From NT explorer, drag the Directory to the DOS window
(d) Press RETURN
Instead of (1) and (2) I found it very convenient and useful to create the DOS
window from explorer.
To do that, you must configure Windows NT Explorer.
This can be done by::
(a) Start Windows NT Explorer
(b)
>From Explorer menu bar
Choose view/Options
click on the File Types tab
Select File/ Folder from Registered file types:
click on Edit - this will produce another dialogue box
named Edit File Type
click on New - from Edit File Type dialogue box. This will
produce another dialogue box named New Action
Fill in the New Action dialog box and save the changes.
Action - you could type Open an Ms Dos Window
Application used to perform action:
C:\WINNT\system32\CMD.EXE
click on OK
click on OK
click on OK
