Certainly, but reverting to F77 code, which remains valid under F90, is much
more acceptable in my view than the contortions required to obtain good
performance in C/C++.

Nor should anyone be, although it works quite well when viewed as an enhanced
F77 compiler rather than a buggy F90. I understand that NAG is a popular
alternative in Europe. I am not prepared to take the relative quality of HPUX
C and HPUX F90 as an indictment of Fortran per se.
