I write to introduce myself and provide some links to the Association of
Caribbean Economists (ACE)
A call for papers for the 6th ACE conference: Martinique - Nov 7-10, 1999
can be found at the Virtual Institute of Caribbean studies in the section -

The conference plans to look primarily at themes relating to the Caribbean
in the changing global environment and includes questions of alternatives,
future negotiations, vulnerability of small economies, regionalism, and the
future of non-independent territories. Included is a special workshop on
French Overseas Departments - Caribbean Cooperation. There will be
opportunities to conveen and discuss the establishment of new ACE working
groups.
I am currently in England on sabbatical from the Department of Economics
University of the West Indies, Mona. I am the coordinator of the ACE
working group on the history of Caribbean economic thought. Michael Witter
(also of Mona) and I are currently editing a special issue of the new ACE
journal Marronage. We are interested in receiving papers on Caribbean
economic thought or which deal with economic theory of special interest to
the Caribbean.
Submissions to ACE may be in Dutch, French, English or Spanish.
Personally I would especially like to hear from anybody interested in the
Caribbean economic thought which is my main area of research. More broadly
if you are interested in ACE I can put you in touch.
My other interests relate mainly to the interface between the economy and
society. In recent times I have explored the following areas.
The communitiy as a resouce for solving (especially urban) environmental
problems- waste and urban greening, social capital, gender and social out
comes- health and education (mainly male academic underperformance) and
lessons to be learned from the opperation of garrison electoral
system/politics in Jamaica.
My email address when I am at UWI is [log in to unmask] (note the a is
left off my name)
Best wishes
