Clinton is dealt with in prose regarding Welfare in the lead article in
tomorrow's TLS. I cant see poetry doing it any better in the absence of
Mr Shelley.
[British poetry is currently so dire that we gawp at possible candidates
for laureate and look to Derek WAlcott to rush in and save us. And
Geoffrey Hill's new long poem sounded weak stuff on Radio 3 last week.
Is it published yet?...just had my life saved again from another bout
of blood disease and celebrating by editing the magazine and thinking
how bad ALL the poets are...yippeeeee].
