The special Scottish Poets issue of _Verse_ (Vol. 15 #s1/2) and Daniel
O'Rourke's _Dream State: The New Scottish Poets_ (1994) would be places to
start.
My school should be running the VCU Artists and Writers Workshops at the
Glasgow School of Art next summer, and we generally have Glasgow poets
come in and read (in the past Kathleen Jamie, Danny O'Rourke, Stewart
Conn, Robert Crawford, etc.). If your stepson is interested in
getting some US college credits in this program, he should contact
Richard Fine at [log in to unmask]
He should also look out for the new Glasgow magazine _Acid Angel_ -- this
from the editor:
"Acid Angel was born May 1998 and as I write, the third issue is in
pre-production, ready for release in November 99. Within the first three
issues we have featured fine work by Janice Galloway, Alasdair Gray,
Edwin Morgan, James Kelman, Alan Warner, John Heath-Stubbs, Arthur
Rimbaud, Ivor Cutler, Jay Ramsay, Rupert Loydell, Mario Petrucci, Richard
Wonnacott and many lesser known, but equally brilliant writers."
There are lots of readings--including a decent series at the Waterstones
on Sauchiehall -- but I'm sure you'll get more uptodate information from
the Glaswegans on the list.
