Call for Papers for a Proposed Session at the NARRATIVE conference to be
held in Atlanta, Georgia April 6-9, 2000.
Gothic Out of Bounds
This panel will examine manifestations of the Gothic beyond the
conventionally accepted boundaries of the genre, even those of literature
itself. Papers considering the patterns of migration of the narrative and
rhetorical hallmarks of the Gothic in fiction or nonfiction prose are
solicited.
Some topics that papers might explore include:
The use of the Gothic as counterpoint to other forms of narrative
(sentimental, adventure)
Gothic narratives and reformist writing
Medicine's Gothic
The politics of terror: Gothic tales in campaign rhetoric
