BIOMATHEMATICS & STATISTICS SCOTLAND
STATISTICIAN POSTS EDINBURGH & DUNDEE
Following recent funding successes, BioSS has vacancies for three
statisticians to join its units in Edinburgh and Dundee.
Post 1 is for a postdoctoral research scientist who will develop
stochastic models for within-herd dynamics of animal pathogens drawing
on recent advances in Bayesian techniques and Markov chain methods.
This is a joint BBSRC-funded project with the Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
Post 2 is for a research consultant to provide wider support for our
growing involvement in veterinary epidemiology. A major component of
the work will be to collaborate on a large international project (funded
by Wellcome Trust) to improve understanding of the epidemiology of E.
coli O157 in cattle and its transmission to humans.
These two posts are based at The King's Buildings science campus of
Edinburgh University.
Post 3 is for a statistical modeller to support biodiversity research at
the Scottish Crop Research Institute, near Dundee. The work will build
on recent advances in space time modelling of vegetation data and will
develop the BioSS contribution to SCRI's research programme in soil and
environmental sciences.
Candidates for all three posts should have a good degree in statistics,
or mathematics with a high statistics component, and at least 2 years
postgraduate experience, preferably with an MSc or PhD (required for
post 1). For Posts 2 and 3, candidates should have experience of
collaborating with scientists in biological projects.
Starting salary up to £22000, within salary band £17800 - £25500
