In reply to Anne/Tony Oldham's message:-
I thought that all this nonesense about NAMHO being a secret
society had been sorted a few months ago. When I was the
NAMHO secretary, in the 1980s, any member organisation that
requested it was sent a second copy of minutes etc to a
nominated officer - usually the Newsletter Editor. This practice has
continued and been extended.
Rather than whinging about NAMHO you would do better to attend
the meetings of whatever society (club etc) you are a member of
and ask why it is that Newsletter Editors are not using the material
sent to them. They are depriving you - NOT NAMHO.
As for the death in Devon - the Inspector of Mines talked on the
subject at the NAMHO (them again) Conference and hardly
sounded like Big Brother. The comments in the “Safety Alert” were
generally fair - the top of the shaft was dangerous, the ladders,
landings etc did not have adequate toe-boards and handrails.
Nevertheless, the Inspector was sure that they could have been
made safe with very little effort.
Cheers
Mike Gill
