We have been asked to draw attention your attention to the following free UK
service. If you know of a local body who may be able to use this
information, please forward the message to them.

The Year 2000 Health Sector Support Service
Background
In response to the risk of problems relating to the "millennium bug", the
> World Bank has established an "International Year 2000 Co-operation Centre"
(IY2KCC) through its Infodev program. This centre is intended to promote
"increased co-operation and action among governments, people and the private
sector to minimise adverse effects of Y2K on the global society and
economy".
The IY2KCC, which started in February 1999, operates as a "virtual" centre
accessible via the internet and e-mail. It acts as a clearing house for ideas
and information on the problems of the "millennium bug". As part of this
initiative, IY2KCC has appointed national co-ordinators in each developing
country and has established sector co-operation. A health sector component,
the Health Sector Support Service, was launched in June 1999.
The UK is taking the lead on the health sector component with backing from
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the Department for International
Development (DFID) and the Cabinet Office. The service for the health sector
will be managed by the Institute for Health Sector Development (IHSD) with
the technical input coming from NHS Estates, which has been performing this
function for the NHS in the UK.
Aims of the Service
* To provide help and advice on issues in the health sector associated
with the "millennium bug" and the Year 2000.
* To involve all countries in preparing for possible effects of the
arrival of the Year 2000 on their health sector
* To encourage participation of international health sector
organisations in the IY2KCC initiative
* To disseminate and encourage the use of best practices for health
sector action plans and contingency planning
