The Role of Virtual Learning Environments in The Online Delivery of Staff
Development.
This JTAP funded project has now been launched, based in the Learning
Technology Centre at Heriot-Watt University.
The project web site:
http://www.icbl.hw.ac.uk/jtap-573/index.html
contains general information about the project and its deliverables.
The first deliverable of this project is a report entitled: A Review of
TALISMAN Online, available now for download from the web site.
This report examines two complementary approaches to online staff
development delivery which have been taken by the TALiSMAN project (Teaching
and Learning in Scottish Metropolitan Area Networks; a Scottish Higher
Education Funding Council funded staff development project). Drawing on
evaluation data and our personal experiences, the report highlights and
discusses important issues surrounding the use of networks for the delivery
of staff development.
A second report from this project, available early in 1999 will extend these
issues and review the suitability and potential of a number of commercial
and freely available Virtual Learning Environments for the delivery of staff
development online.
Other deliverables planned for the project include workshops and an online
course, drawing together the issues identified by the project.
