Dear John
Re ACL rehab protocols
Here is a few articles i have recently looked at that may be of use:
1)Effects of an Accelerated Rehabilitation Program after Anterior Cruciate
Ligament Reconstruction with combined Semitendinosus-Gracilis Autograft and
a ligament augmentation device. Peter B. MacDonald, David Hedden, Ondrej
Pacin and David Huebert, AJSM 1995, vol23, No.5 588-592
2) A Prospective Outcome Study of Rehabilitation Programs and Anterior
Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction. Robert C. Schenck, JR. et al.
Arthroscopy: THe Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery 1997, Vol 13,
no.3 (June) 285-290
3) Home Based Rehabilitation for Anterior Cruciate ligament Reconstruction.
David A. Fischer,MD et al. CORR 1998, no 347, 194-199
4) Assessing the need for Extensive Supervised Rehabilitation Following
Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction, Stephen Treacy, MD et al. The American
Journal of Orthopedics, January 1997, pp 25-29
I mainly was looking at these due to the increasing numbers coming through
my hospital for rehab and certainly some of the younger guys that are well
motivated and belong to local gyms seem to manage well with minimum
"formal" treatment ie in groups once or twice a week at the hospital. They
just drop in from time to time for a check up and ideas on areas to focus
on.
I would appreciate anyones experiences like this
