David Charles is a Principal Research Associate at CURDS, University
of Newcastle, where he has been for 16 years since starting as a PhD
student in 1982. He is the co-ordinator of CURDS' research group on
Innovation, Learning and Knowledge and has research interests in
regional innovation policy, R&D location, universities and regions,
high technology industry and European regional development. He has a
particular interest in the role of contract research staff within
geography, and in the development of European research links. He is
rather predictable in his interests in books, travel, music
(especially of a late 70s/early 80s vintage) and Newcastle United.
