Hello Ed,
Regarding the Australian Museums Online web site (AMOL) and Dublin
Core:
AMOL comprises about 250 pages of textual information related to
museums issues as well as 1000 "pages" about museum and 350.000
"pages" about museums objects (soon to be 600.000).
The 250 pages of museums issues don't have Dublin Core attached yet
as we wanted to wait for the CIMI best practice guide for Dublin Core
in museums. The same goes for the 1000 "pages" of information about
museums. As for the object "records" we have been using Dublin Core
since September 1997.
Take a look at http://amol.org.au/collection/collections_index.asp
where you can search the collection "records". The interface allows
you to search in 5 different fields. Don't be fooled by the naming of
the fields. You are actually search over Dublin Core metatags embedded
in HTML documents. By the way this information doesn't actually come
from a database it's indexed with Verity's Search97 Information Server.
(The same technology Altavista is using...)
Why I hear you ask. Because the records come from a distributed system.
Rather than importing all records to a central database we left the
control over the information with the museums.
We are currently testing the use of XML again with Dublin Core as
the schema.

We included these metatags because the majority of search engines
recognize and index them.
Thanks,
Thomas
