I know one overworked librarian creating and overseeing one such project.
Here at ACU I am developing an archive of thesis abstracts using the
Dublin Core. I have created a form that asks for author, title,
subject, copyright date, current date, degree, transcriber, and
description. The form is submitted and a Dublin Core header
is created by a php script, which adds other static dc elements to the
page.
To index and maintain the abstracts we use a free program from UC
Berleley. It is called Swish-E (for enhanced). It works great. When my
site is up, I will let you know. Although I was not hired to do this,
management wants it done so I will do it, but it waits until I can carve
out some time. The url for SWISH-E (Simple Wed Indexing System for
Humans-Enhanced) is http://SUNSITE.berkeley.edu/SWISH-E/
In response to Ed's recent post, I employee DC in my thesis project, in
my copyright page, and in my personal web page. When I have time, I plan
to encode it into all the library pages here.
If you have any question about any of this, feel free to send me a note.
