Hi,
Code-A-Text was specifically designed to enable researchers to be free from
any particular analytic or theoretical model but was influenced by some of
my early work which took place in the early days of grounded theory.
The basic concept of the categorical scale with codes can be used in the
same way as category/dimension approach described by Strauss and Corbin
under the heading of Open coding. Similarly at each stage the the method
they describe Code-A-Text can be used. What it does not do is impose any
particular method upon you.
As you say it has the added advantage of allowing you to attach the code
directly to the sound file without the necessity of full transcription.
However for the sections you do transcribe you have access to the full
content analysis features which will soon be complemented by a novel method
for describing acoustic content.
I hope those of you who are still working are able to stop and have a Happy
Chrsitmas.
Regards
Alan Cartwright
