'RELATIVE DECLINE AND POVERTY: SIGNPOSTS TO THE SIXTIES?'
A conference to be held on Thursday 14 May 1999 at the University of Bristol.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The conference will examine the policy responses of both Conservative and
Labour governments during the 1960s to the growing perception of UK
relative economic decline and to the developing debate over the concept of
relative poverty. Thus suitable subjects for papers include:
· responses to stop-go; the adoption of indicative planning; attempts to
improve demand management; incomes policy; the debate over nationalisation;
· the poverty debate; social security; pensions provision; redundancy pay;
taxation policy;
· industrial training; education policy; and the 'white heat of technology'.
