Dear Mike,
Yes, many physios have completed a PhD in Victoria, Australia. A few years
ago when there were very few suitably qualified supervisors available in
schools of physiotherapy it was more common for people to do their PhD in
Anatomy, Human Biosciences or similar field. Now we have many PhD
graduates and PhD candidates in physiotherapy. La Trobe University is also
introducing a Professional Doctorate in 1999. The Professional Doctorate
provides an alternative to the traditional PhD for experienced
practitioners. It enables practitioners to enhance their career and
leadership prospects by upgrading their qualifications and further
developing their expertise and research capacities in work related
