Dear all
My Mum has recently had a total hip arthroplasty, unfortunately she now
has total inactivity of foot dorsiflexors with some sensory loss on the
dorsum of the foot. The op was only a couple of days ago so it is hard
to say what the situation is I wonder if you had any references off-hand
for prognoses and treatment protocols etc.
Mum is an ex-GP and wants to be well-informed and so I am doing a bit of
research for her. It has been a long time since I did my orthopaedic
placement and I would be especially interested in stats regarding
recovery rates.
The only articles I have chased-up so far are really looking at
individuals who have long-term problems and then have surgical
intervention. I have no info on how many peole suffer theses symptoms on
a short-term basis and may never enter the statistical literature.
I am taking my own EMG machine down to see if she has any activity in
the dorsiflexors at all. Do you have any info on muscle stimulators?
Any suggestions gratefully received
