I have recently come across mention of tanistry as an old mode of
inheritance of title in Ireland and Scotland, but can't get a clear idea
of how it actually worked.
Does anyone know of a case study in which (a) all those eligible as heirs
are listed and (b) it is made clear how the decision as to which one
succeeded was reached?
Is there tanistry in "Macbeth", by any chance?
Thanks for any information, Malcolm Smith.
