With six titles now published, this book series presents high quality
research monographs and edited collections written from a variety of
perspectives and at different levels of analysis. The study of global
competition is increasingly at the center of an academic crossroads at
which different research programs and methods of investigation are now
meeting, bringing together researchers working in areas such as
international business, technological change, geographical and locational
analysis, and European integration.
The Editors welcome proposals for the series that include:
* Investigations of the global economy as a whole, with a focus on the
major centers of production - Europe, North America, Japan, and the
Pacific Rim - and the corporate strategies of the leading firms from each
of these areas.
* Studies of corporate reorganization, especially work on the changing
geographical division of labor within the multinational corporation.
* The changing boundaries of the international firm and the role of
strategic alliances.
* The coordination of diverse and complex technological and
organizational
systems; and the ability of firms to learn and to adapt to strategic
change. In this context, research on national and corporate
competitiveness will also be of interest, including international
comparisons of alternative technological paths or trajectories.
* New analytical commentaries on the nature of the firm and of corporate
competence in the light of the evidence on multinational company
competitiveness, and which compare the firm as a device for minimizing
transaction costs; as an arrangement of resources or competencies; and as
a device for housing organizational learning and technological
innovation.
* The increasing significance of city-regions as units of territorial
competition and for the formation of local inter-firm networks.
