Colleagues who are looking for data may be interested to know (ifthey
didn't already!) that the ONS has introduced a new statistics on-line
service called Statbase. It has a wide variety of data available on-line
and can either be viewed on-line, downloaded as comma-separated data or
in their own Navidata format. There are at the moment 147 data types
available though some may be charged for. All the ones I looked at were
free, but that was a small sample.
The data includes a lot for both economics and business
including:
Nat. income accounts
Business survival rates
Business registrations
Full Balance of payments
Claimant count and ILO statistics for unemp.
Class sizes (see how you compare!!)
Atmospheric pollution
etc etc etc.
The site also has on-line the UK in Figures, which many of us
may remember as the little booklet they used to publish.
To find the site go to:
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/
and follow the links to Statbase and then statstore
Hope you find it useful. Don't forget that there's also a mass
of excellent data on http://www.bized.ac.uk/
