DC friends,
My assessment of the reaction to my camp1/camp2 post-DC6 message:
(BTW, I used camp1 and camp2 to avoid the frequently misused or
misunderstood historical names, but my use of "camp" comes from my
long history in Girl Scouts, not from the military. If you inferred
divisive polarity, it was not intended.)
The responses on the list were fairly innocuous, paraphrased as "I
get her point, BUT..."
The responses I got off-list were (with but one exception) in
enthusiastic agreement with me.
<ponder the significance on your own>
Anyway, I'm not ashamed to want a good Swiss army knife. It's one
thing to design a great tool for a single purpose, but many of us
thought that DC set out to be a pretty good tool that is useful for
many people with many purposes.
I agree that cross-pollination is necessary in our search for "bee
interoperability," but I, for one, find it increasingly difficult to
rationalize continuing involvement as DC pursues camp2 ends with
little inclination for addressing camp1 issues. Before too many
campers1 fall by the wayside, I thought I'd suggest a
SIG/BOF/WG/whatever where we could address camp1 issues, instead of
populating all of the various groups in which we become camp2 speed
bumps, if we have any influence at all.
not ready to take my Swiss army knife and go home,
Ricky
ps. I nominate Diane Hillmann for the camper-of-the-year badge
