Hello all.
As part of an effort to rationalise information flow amongst participants
in the Dublin Core effort, various mailing lists are being moved from
their current homes to the United Kingdom's Mailbase service
<http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/>. This is already home to the subelement and
data model working groups, and offers various useful utilities for list
management and for associating files with lists (see, for example, the
great work Misha has done with the data model group at
<http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/dc-datamodel/>).
Those of us working on this obviously hope to minimise hassle and problems
for all of you, but we apologise in advance for any little
glitch-ettes...! ;-)
The first thing you'll notice - today or tomorrow, probably - is a message
from Mailbase asking you to CONFIRM that you want adding to a list called
dc-general. This is the new name for meta2.
If you want to stay involved in these discussions, you MUST REPLY, so that
the server can confirm your e-mail address.
Mailbase will then send you a brief introductory blurb. Other than that,
nothing should happen.
You should CONTINUE TO USE META2 for all discussions and things until a
message comes round from Stu, Eric, or I telling you that the switch has
been made. Then you can start using the new list.
At that time, Martin Hamilton (long-suffering guardian of meta2) will
point the old meta2 address at the new list to catch any messages which
fall through the cracks.
We are also working to transfer the entire meta2 mail archive to Mailbase,
so nothing will be lost.
Thanks for your patience, and talk to you on the new list soon,
Paul
