We can finally provide you with a full agenda for the SIG meeting on
Monday, December 7th, as announced to members by mail on October 27th.
I hope that you did, as requested, put the date in your diary and that
the short notice will not therefore prove problematical.
The theme for the day will be "New initiatives for 1999" and the event
will be in two parts.
MORNING: partner-search/consortium-brokerage for Framework Five proposers
If you were at the Sheffield SIG meeting, or have been monitoring progress
towards the first calls for proposals under Framework Five, you may have
already identified areas where you could usefully submit a proposal.
Alternatively, you may simply be looking to offer your services to a new
or existing consortium.
We will be joined at this meeting by representatives of the SIG's
counterparts in Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg,
Norway, Portugal and Spain - we are awaiting confirmation from Austria,
Belgium, France, Ireland and the Netherlands.
To get best value out of this part of the event, send me your
partner-requirements by email this week and they will be distributed to
members of the participating organisations. We will also be issuing
partnership-requests from the other countries on the day. European SIG
members will outline their members' interests in this area and will be
available throughout the day for one-to-one discussions with prospective
partners.
*** You can download the 23/09/98 DRAFT of the IST Work Programme - the
version given to delegates at the last SIG meeting - from the web-site
in RTF format (guaranteed - virus-free) - at the URL

AFTERNOON: the outcome of three new initiatives within the UK, where
UK MM-SIG has been part of the consultation process:
(1) TrustMark - the proposed 'opt-in' for internet advertisers, developed
by the Committee of Advertising Practice and the Advertising Standards
Authority. Information about TrustMark can be found at
<http://www.cap.org.uk>
(2) Multimedia SVQ/NVQs - the result of a process which the SIG has been
tracking since 1996, and the trigger for a strategy meeting with the
University for Industry later this month. Information about the new
qualifications can be found at <http://www.skillset.org>
(3) Recommendations for Growth: UK Digital Media - Kay Henning's report
for the Digital Media Alliance, presented to the DTI in October. SIG
member Frank Boyd, chair of the DMA steering committee and Director of
ARTEC, will lead the discussion. Copies of the report can be downloaded
from <http://www.artec.org.uk/dma/index.html>
Full details of the event and a booking form can be found at
<http://www.magnet.org/ukmmsig/dec07sig.htm>
Pre-booking is essential.
We look forward to seeing you in London on December 7th.
Neil Sandford
