The highly successful Department of Applied Computing was awarded a
"5A" rating in the 1996 UK Research Assessment Exercise and is thus
one of the top 3 computing departments in Scotland. This friendly,
supportive and expanding Department is seeking suitably qualified
candidates for the following vacancies.
EPSRC RESEARCH ASSISTANT
(15,735 - 17,570 RA1A)
The successful candidate will develop novel in-vehicle control systems
combining an advanced predictive/adaptive interface and computer
vision technology using C++. The project is in collaboration with
several industrial partners and the University of Derby. Duration of

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH GROUP (TRG)
(15,735 - 19,197 RA1B)
The successful candidate will join the TRG developing network and data
communications systems for people with disabilities and special needs.
Applicants should have skills in OOD and Java, including good working
experience of systems such as Windows NT/95/98, Unix, Mac OS. Salary
will be on the RA1A/1B scale, depending on qualifications and
experience.

Applicants for the research positions will have a first or upper
second class honours degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. applied
computing, computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering.
Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate significant experience of
computing applications. Candidates for the EPSRC funded posts must
also satisfy EPSRC residency rules.
