Articles will, therefore, deal with a broad range of subjects over a wide time span, from Prehistory to the present, and consider themes such as the role of archaeology as a scientific discipline and as a public service in the countries of the Iberian Pen
insula. Contributions from colleagues living outside Portugal and Spain are also wellcome, as long as they approach interesting subjects for Iberian archaeology, including methodology, theory, or Iberia seen in a Mediterranean, Atlantic or world setting.

\pard \qj \tab Following the Congresses of Oporto in 1993 and of Zamora in 1996, this 3rd Congress of the specialists of Iberian archaeology -
 and of the people interested in the matter, particularly students - will take place in1999 in Vila Real, a charming town in the North of Portugal.  This event aims to approach the main issues of the current archaeological research in the whole of Iberia, 
puting together colleagues that work on themes which are interesting for the archaeology of the Peninsula, whatever the place where they live (Spain, Portugal, or abroad).  It will be divided in several sessions, each one focusing on a specific subject.  A
part from those listed below, we would appreciate the suggestion of other themes. Each session will function as an autonomous meeting, with its coordinators. The success of this congress will depend on the capacity of the coordinators to mobilize people an
d ideas to present and discuss in Vila Real the subjects that are actually in the front of the research, from the Palaeolithic to the Contemporary Epoch.\par
