Call for Papers
New Generation Computing welcomes contributions for a special issue:
New Challenges in Intelligent Systems (planned for Vol.17 No.4
(August 1999))
Edited by Toyoaki Nishida
"Intelligent Systems (IS)" is a new area in the New Generation Computing
journal having been open since Vol. 16, No. 1 (November 1997). This
area is intended to archive important results in relatively new
intelligent
technologies such as agents, communication amplification, knowledge
media, ontologies, or smart artifacts. At early stages, it would be
beneficial to make clear what issues are the most challenging and hence
deserve serious research, what approaches we think most promising, what
technological breakthroughs we are likely to make, and why they are so.
The purpose of the special issue is to edit a collection of excellent
articles
on new challenges in intelligent systems and thereby present the readers
and potential authors with our perspectives of intelligent systems. In
order to facilitate steady discussion, we solicit papers discussing their
respective perspectives based on partial evidences reflecting author's
finished/ongoing work. We prefer to show the readers the challenges
almost out there, say, within the scope of five years research. It is
more
like a showcase of ambitious new research proposals, sending attractive
messages to potential sponsors and partners.
- expected length of each paper:
around five-ten journal pages
(about 3,000 words including figures and tables)
- suggested topics but are not limited to:
- what is an important problem in IS, and why?
- is it challenging?
If so, describe the nature of difficulty
- what have you done for the problem?
- what is your perspective?
- what are open issues?
- follow the "Instructions to Authors" available on request from the
editor
via [log in to unmask] (FORTHCOMING AROUND DECEMBER 1, 1998)
- submit two hardcopies by January 31, 1999 to:
