I may be getting a little paranoid but I am concerned by
Ross Andersons useful comments about encryption.
Question Do we as doctors or healthcare professionals have
an absolute right of confidentialty to information obtained
from our patients (I vote yes) and are there sometimes
situations where IN OUR JUDGEMENT we have an overriding right
to the state to release information that has reached us by
that route (I vote yes again).
There is no clinical need for Goverment to be able to deencrypt
medical records so you have to ask yourself, why do "they" need to
know?
This coming hot on the heels of information that a friends PC
has started ringing up his ISP and downloading data to Microsoft
without his intervention (allegedly as they say on the Box) and that
one of the digital TV suppliers insist that your modem is plugged
in at all times (but not clear to me what information is to be sent
down the wire) causes me a little concern.
Whither privacy?
Or should I just sit back and not bother about it?
