RESEARCH WITH LOW-INCOME FAMILIES
We require two people to join our Social Security Research Team. The PSI Team
is one of the two core-funded by the Department of Social Security since 1990
and carries out large-scale surveys of Britain's low-income families, low-paid
workers, unemployed and disabled people. A major new study of 5,000 low-
income families with children will begin next Spring.
Research Officers/Fellows
1: 15,898 - 20,640 inc LW
2: 17,776 - 27.014 inc LW
You should have a good degree in a social science subject.
Research Fellow Grade 2 applicants should also have at least 2 years' research
experience and a strong interest in developing high-level skills in survey
research in this area. A higher degree in research methods may be an
advantage, but you will be good at multivariate analysis.
Research Officer Grade 1 candidates will also have some post-grad research
experience or a higher degree in research methods or applied economics.
Exceptionally qualified candidates with little direct research experience may
be considered.
The Team has a strong reputation for high quality independent research that
contributes directly to policy development. Core-funding has recently been
renewed for 3 years from 1999 and these appointments will be to the permanent
staff of the Institute. They will require a long-term commitment to a career
in social policy and a period of practical training will be involved.
FOR AN APPLICATION FORM and further details, please send an A4 stamped, self-
addressed envelope clearly quoting ref PSI/LIF to the Policy Studies
Institute, c/o University of Westminster, Personnel Department, 309 Regent
Street, London, W1R 8AL.
Closing date 26 November 1998.
An Equal Opportunity Employer.
