An important development, and one that needs close cooperation with
sservices such as SCRAN (one of the resources that the centre will aid the
discovery of!)

Subject: JISC Circular 10/98: Resource Discovery Network Centre
I am pleased to be able to announce that (subject to final negotiations on
matters of detail), a proposal from Kings College, London with the
University of Bath (UKOLN) and supported by the University of Hull, has
been selected to form the new Resource Discovery Network Centre. The
principals of this group are Daniel Greenstein, Lorcan Dempsey and Richard
Heseltine.
They are already working hard on the implementation stages of the network
Centre.
JISC sees this as a key development in providing quality information on
Internet resources for research, learning and teaching. We believe we
have selected a proposal with an innovative approach. There is a great
deal of work to do to ensure there is a smooth transition from the present
system to the new network next year, but I have every confidence that this
will happen on time with minimal disruption to users, and that the end
result will be a better and more broadly based service covering much more
of the subject spectrum.
