Subject: Relayed Warning (from EUR-OP) about CORDIS CD-ROM.
We thought you may wish to see a notice from Office of Official
Publications
of EC, about a virus in their CORDIS CD-ROM. It is of great concern to
distributors and agents, that such an allegedly reliable source cannot
properly validate their products before dispersal.
You may wish to relay the warning to European Information Association and
EuroBases User Group in order to advise respective members as a matter of
urgency.

Subject: CORDIS CD-ROM edition II/1998 - IMPORTANT
>Dear distributor,
>
>we have just been informed by the author's service of the CORDIS CD-ROM,
>that a virus had been detected on CORDIS CD-ROM edition II/1998. This virus
>was not discovered with the anti-virus-program used by the author's
service,
>(Norton AntiVirus).
>
>The CORDIS group will prepare a note to all the CORDIS CD-ROM subscribers,
>which will be sent out as soon as available. If you installed this CORDIS
>CD-ROM edition on your PC, please uninstall it as soon as possible.
>
>Hereafter, you will find some supplementary information concerning the
>virus contained on the CD:
>
>"This virus is not known to be widespread. This virus infects DOS.EXE
files.
>It is 5658 bytes long. This virus is a "direct action" virus. When an
infected program has been launched, it immediately infects other programs.
The Korn.5658 virus is a standard file-infecting virus, and cannot infect
hard drive or floppy disk system areas. This virus does not hide itself
using "stealthing" techniques. It propagates identical copies of itself. The
Korn.5658 virus does not have any known payload (that is, it does nothing
other than replicate). Because of the nature of the Korn.5658 virus, Norton
AntiVirus is unable to repair infected files. To remove the virus, delete
and reinstall all infected files."
>
>This is all available information we have received on the virus.
>You will receive a copy of the note to be sent out to the subscribers.
>If you need any further information on this matter, please do not hesitate
>to contact me.
>
>Please accept our excuses for any inconveniences caused by this matter.
>
>Kind regards,
>Gisela Wagner
