Hi all,
I have been lurking here for a short while, and have already found the list
most interesting. Thanks to the administrators and the contributors.
By way of introduction, I am completing a Masters degree in communication,
focusing on the pictorial images of physical disability in film and
television. I am a student at the Rand Afrikaans University in
Johannesburg, South Africa.
It was with particular interest that I read about the Cinema & Disability
conference coming up next year, and have begun exploring the possibility of
attending.
And of course the rather vulgar topic of funding has to be considered...
One disadvantage of tertiary education in an emerging economy is a severe
lack of resources. My university is unable to help and the response from
other local agencies has also not been terribly promising.
If anyone reading this list could point me towards organisations or
institutions that might help fund the trip, I'd be most appreciative.
It might be of interest to listmembers that disability studies as a
discipline is virtually unknown in this country, and none of the local
universities offer courses in the field.
Thanks for your patience, and sorry for wasting bandwidth on such trivia.
Leslie Harris
