Lecturer/Senior lecturer in medical anthropology/sociology
Applications are invited for this position within the
Department of Social Medicine, where research interests are
in the broad areas of health services research,
aetiological epidemiology and public health. This
appointment is designed particularly to strengthen those
aspects of the research programme which could benefit from
greater understanding of the social and cultural aspects of
illness and health care. The successful candidate will
contribute to the existing research programme, and continue
to develop their own research programme in collaboration
with members of the Department who include other
sociologists/anthropologists, health economists,
epidemiologists, statisticians etc.
The post holder will also teach undergraduate medical
students and contribute to the MSc in Health Research
Methods, particularly the qualitative research methods
component.

Lecturer/Senior lecturer in medical statistics
Applications are invited for this key position within the
Department of Social Medicine. The successful candidate
will continue to develop their own research programme in
collaboration with members of the Department. Particular
areas of interest include aetiological epidemiology (for
example, event history and lifecourse analysis in complex
longitudinal datasets; genetic/environment interactions)
and health services research (areas of particular interest
include meta-analysis; quasi-experimental designs;
development of clinical trials methodology and measurement
of complex multidimensional outcomes).
A successful record in design, conduct, and analysis of
large scale studies would be an advantage. The post holder
will also teach undergraduate medical students and
contribute to the proposed MSc in Health Research Methods.
