Asking about speech recognition makes me realize that about the CLAN suite
of programmes have not heard mentioned on this list (they can cope with
sound files rather than direct speech recognition btw) <aside> could it be
that this is because it is distributed free? </aside>
CLAN which was developed to analyse child language development is a very
flexible suite of programmes.
Several years ago Andy Wilson and I published a short piece in CAM
(Cultural Anthropology Methods) which discussed how CLAN could be used to
code and analyse fieldnotes
Since then the ability to deal with sound recordings has been added and a
version of CLAN for conversation analysis is under development
