The recent publication by the Environment Agency of the Bye report into the Easter floods in the Midlands has been a reminder of the importance to any town or village on a river of not forgetting its vagaries in the distant past.
You may like to know of the public domain initiative of the British Hydrological Society to place on the web a source book of hydrological facts for Britain prior to 1930. This is now reaching a level at which it can be useful , but many more entries are needed from those who know their area , and its published sources.
