6 month contract in the first instance
The Institute for Learning and Research Technology, at the University of
Bristol, is the largest group of its kind in the UK, with a range of projects
including national and international Internet services, award-winning software
development and innovative academic support services. Its mission is to be a
centre of excellence in the development and use of new technology in teaching,
learning and research.
A six-month vacancy has become available in the Institute, working on the
Social Science Information Gateway (www.sosig.ac.uk), the ROADS project
(www.ilrt.bris.ac.uk/roads) and the DESIRE 2 project (www.desire.org).
Applicants should have experience of the following:
- UNIX systems administration
- PC to UNIX interoperability (e.g. NFS, Samba)
- maintaining web sites and running web servers under UNIX
- CGI programming
- Perl and shell scripting
Some interest or experience in the following would
also be useful:
- Internet resource discovery
- Harvesting and metadata
- Caching
