Dear Prof. Peach,
If short and dirty info can serve: Florentine humanist, born ca. 1469, died
ca.1487. The _Disticha_ were quite successful, much read all over Europe,
and there were earlier editions (I have not checked a reliable source to
verify the first edition, but they were included into Luigi Pittorio's
_Sacra et satyrica epigrammata_ published by Froben in Basel, 1518;
separate edition Mainz 1536; there may be others, I don't know, but from
1542 on they abound). For a biography see Alfonso Lazzari, _Ugolino e
Michele Verino, studii biografici e critici_, Torino 1897 (it seems that
you can obtain a microfilm copy through UMI, Ann Arbor). We have experts on
this list who will be able to tell you much more.
Best wishes,
Otfried
