You might want to have a quick look at my short chapter on "Fun and Games"
in my recent book on "The Boys of the Archangel Raphael. A Youth
Confraternity in Florence, 1411-1785" (Toronto, UoT Press, 1998), pp.
191-197. The chapter does not deal with gambling, but it does deal with
such games as "pallottole" and "trucco" (billiards) in the 16th-18th
century in a Florentine confraternity for young men.
