The School of Information Systems, University of East Anglia, Norwich has
vacancies for two Research Assistants to work in datamining and optimisation.
Graduates, preferably with an MSc but with at least a 2(I) degree in
computing or allied subject, are sought for two year posts starting February
1st, 1999 (or earlier).
Both successful applicants will be employees of the University of East
Anglia but will work within a progressive software company, Lanner Group
which operates world-wide with headquarters in Redditch, Worcestershire.
On a day-to-day basis, they will work at Lanner Group, but will have regular
contact with the University of East Anglia. Opportunities will exist for
registration for a part-time higher degree at the University.
A successful applicant will be expected to have a high degree of numeracy
and a strong computing background. Preference will be given to those who,
in addition, have knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following:
KDD, optimisation, evolutionary computation, operations research, or
artificial intelligence. An ability to present work to customers and senior
management is essential.
The research is sponsored jointly by the Teaching Company Scheme and by
Lanner Group and involves
(1) the development and application of techniques to be embedded in a data
mining toolkit to elicit knowledge from large scale data sets,
(2) the development and refinement of optimisation techniques in scheduling
and allocation.
Initial salary will depend upon experience but will be at a minimum of £15,735.
