Hello
The PRIMA Project is working with the University of East Anglia (I've copied
this message to Dave Palmer there) to see whether EDDIS would be a useful
tool in the context of primary care. We haven't been able to implement it
(yet), and it is now one of a range of tools which may be appropriate for
some of the needs in supporting primary care staff with information.
However, all of these tools are forcing librarians and those who fund access
to their services to be explicit about funding issues, and while some short
term project funding is sometimes forthcoming, I think Tony's original
posting was interesting. He shows that use of the electronic and secondary
research sources, even in conjunction with skilled advice, still leaves a
need for somewhat untrendy paper copy library services.
We must hope that the district NHS library strategies being developed around
the country following HSC(97)47 will be able to address this issue. While
some districts have admirable arrangements avilable for all NHS staff within
them, there is a long way for others to go.
