This is not true. Liberating troops of all allied forces regularly shot
KZ guards during the liberation. In doing so, they committed a war crime,
an abuse of human rights, and of civil rights.
Nevertheless, they were right to do so. Amnesty International says they
were wrong to do so. That is what I have against Amnesty: they put rights
above morality.
pt
And doesn't AI have a point when they say they were wrong to do so. Anyway,
why does Paul Treanor want to separate morality from the right to life?
(rights ABOVE morality??) Aren't our rights underpinned by moral principles,
and isn't that the reason why this whole discussion started? Or on what other
grounds do we condemn Pinochet's violation of other people's right (to life),
but moral ones?
Moreover, AI does not argue that Pinochet had the right to kill....although
the right to kill is sth Paul Treanor is arguing for. So: how do we decide
WHO is allowed to kill and WHEN they are allowed to do so (other than in
self-defense)? And WHO gets to vote on this issue? Pinochet?
