A friend of mine who lives in the Washington, DC area (Virginia, actually) has
cancer and has moved in with her daughter. She currently is using a walker
but will soon be switching to a wheelchair (not sure if it will be manual or
power). Her daughter's house has 7 steps to get into the entrance so they are
starting to investigate lifts, ramps, and other modifications to allow her to
get in and out of the house safely.
Anyone have any experience with: Dealers in reasonably priced equipment, used
equipment, or rentals (I'm thinking a w/c lift may be more doable than a
ramp)? Suggestions on ways to inexpensively modify the house or types of
equipment to install? Contacts in the Washington, DC area who may be of help?
Money is an issue. (I'm not sure if Medicare covers home modifications or
lifts or ramps...I suspect no.)
Any ideas, direction, or contacts you can suggest would be wonderful. Thanks.
