The discussion that continues (or once again resurfaces) on software that
will alollow you to run Windows programs on you Mac was intially in
response to a request for information about Mac versions of Atlas/ti.
There are two issues here:
1. Both Softwindows and Virtual PC will allow you to emulate a Windows
environment on your Mac. If the Mac is sufficiently well equipped, the
software will emulate a 133 mHz PC running windows. That should be adequate
for most applications. I investigated these packages to see if I could run
Dragon Systems NaturallySpeaking on my Mac. Since Softwindows got somewhat
better reviews, I ordered and installed a copy. Windows 95 came as part of
the package. It seemed to do a fine job of emulating a Windows environment
except that it would not emulate SoundBlaster sound, the one thing that I
had to have. I am confident it would run Atlas/ti very well, at least as
well a a Windows machine.
2. The original request was for Mac versions of software. While both
si=oftware packages allow you to run Windows programs on your Mac, this is
not the same as running Mac software. You are in a Windows environment with
the added difficulty of navigating that environment with a one-button
mouse. If you hate Windows, you will hate it not one bit less for all that
it is running on your Mac. If you must have a Windows environment, have a
well-equipped Mac, and can't afford to buy a PC, either of these software
packages will work well.
