1999 Social Policy Association Conference: Social Insecurity and Social Policy
First Call for Papers: Deadline March 19 1999
The 1999 Annual Conference of the Social Policy Association will take
place at Roehampton Institute London from July 20-22. The
conference is being organised by a team from the School of Sociology
and Social Policy at Roehampton Institute (Judith Glover, Hazel May
and Lorraine Radford) together with Ros Edwards (South Bank University).
The theme is 'Social Insecurity and Social Policy'. Contributions are solicited
on the following topics:
violence and safety;
welfare, risk and social capital;
identity;
stratification and difference;
comparisons: geographical and historical;
New Labour;
technology;
globalization.
There will also be an open stream and an opportunity for poster
presentations with a timetabled slot for authors to discuss their
work with delegates. Delegates intending to make a poster presentation
should inform the secretariat (see address below) by March 19 1999.
Details of cost, booking arrangements and plenary speakers will be
announced shortly.
Abstracts of around 150 words (a printed copy, together with a
disk using Word 6 or below or WordPerfect 5.1/5.2) should be sent by
March 19 1999 at the latest to:
