The next Course to be held by the CAQDAS Networking Project:-
23 Sept 1998 2 in 1 Software Introduction : Introduction of WINMAX Pro 97 and
ATLAS.ti (to be held at University of Surrey, GUILDFORD UK)
This course, with demonstrations and significant hands on sections, aims to
introduce both packages - providing participants with an idea of
functionality with some emphasis placed on different attributes and
strengths of both softwares.
WINMAX Pro is an easy to learn piece of software for the analysis of
qualitative, textual data, with advanced searching and theory building
tools. The coding schema created would tend to be hierarchical; this
hierarchy then provides easy and immediate access to all coded text, (in
output reports, clearly listed and labelled) within each hierarchy, though
retrieval can be activated on a much more selective, and complex basis if
required.
ATLAS/ti focuses on allowing the user to work easily at different levels of
abstraction from the data; it is also user friendly in its coding
mechanisms, providing the user with options to build coding schema which are
not necessarily hierarchical - but can be incorporated into various
semantic, visualised 'networks' illustrating connections, ideas, and even
the practical organisation of a project.
