Some thoughts on spinal paradox:
Dr. Siff refers to the average spine, what is that? If anything the
spine is so diverse variability is the norm which makes treating it so
perplexing.
Spinal pain or Low Back Pain as alluded by another on the list is a mind
set. No one can ever say that what one is feeling is not painful. So,
many of do treat the biggest muscle, the one between the ears by operant
conditioning, i.e. that you can move safely with out hurting yourself.
Back to the complexity of spinal pain, I have always believed that there
is more than one way to skin a cat. In other words Maitland, Mckenzie,
Butler, Pilates, Thrust type manipulations, Massage, may all be
effective. But keep in mind there is always some type of movement or
movement enhancement going on. Which technique (or combination of
techniques) is effective may not be possible to understand, but does
that mean that we all are practicing voodoo because there is no formula
to treating LBP? I think not.
