The History Data Service (HDS) is the national centre for the accession,
preservation and dissemination of computer-readable historical digital
resources. The HDS is seeking to recruit a very computer-literate historian
to manage the preservation and dissemination of the collection and to
provide support for users of the collection. Duties are likely to include

improving the collection; preparing data for on-line services; and
providing information and advice to users of the collection. Although
primarily responsible for these areas of work the team in the HDS
encourages flexible working and the person appointed must be willing to
engage in all areas of the work of the HDS.
Applicants should have a strong background in history, preferably at degree
level, with knowledge of the use of computers in historical research and
experience of manipulating historical data and using databases and
spreadsheets. Programming skills would be an added advantage, as would
some experience of historical research. Training will be provided where
necessary. Potential applicants are strongly advised to consult the HDS
